Moving In

After almost three months of agonizing anticipation, ISD’s COPS (Corporate & PC-based Systems), MADS (Mainframe Applications Development & Support), and SQA (Systems Quality Assurance) have finally moved in to their newly renovated abode in DCB. The Data Center Building, home to the Airline’s IT professionals, has been undergoing renovation since late August of this year. Employees have since been necessitated to make do with the remaining space available in the office while the first phase of the renovation takes place. With a target completion date of October 30, the first of five phases was officially opened for occupancy on November 17th.

Ribbon cutting ceremonies and welcome parties, even modest ones, are never out of place during such occasions. Notwithstanding the lack of materials (all supplies have been packed the day before), the eager beavers managed to come up with a makeshift welcome banner, balloons, and a ribbon for the occasion. Managers Jose Rene Nagrampa, Noemi Tañada, and Louis Lim, did the honor of cutting the ribbon, officially opening the newly refurbished office to its excited occupants.

The wooden board that separates the old and the new areas may be but a thin sheet but the view that it keeps from each other are as different as can be. Lined with low contemporary-styled gray and blue modulars, the new office bares a stark difference with its old counterpart. Gone are the stained walls and broken ceilings that have seen much better days. In their place are white-coated walls, renewed ceiling panels, and bright lighting fixtures giving a sense of modernity and a more spacious atmosphere. Wires, cables, switches, and network hubs have also been organized and hidden from view, further enhancing the professional look of the place.

Seemingly a tourist attraction, the newly inaugurated area has been packed with people all day. Visitors from various divisions, both curious and excited as to what is in store for them when the next phases are completed, have come and gone, admiring the newly installed furnishings, even trying out the legendary washrooms. Who can blame them? For our IT professionals in DCB, it sure is a sight to behold. And truly, this wonderful change is nothing but what our IT people deserve as it is in this office where they would be spending most of their days and sometimes nights working assiduously just to keep the airline’s systems running smoothly.

Phase II of the construction is scheduled to start on November 21 and will last for four weeks. Phases III, IV, and V will soon follow, each lasting for 7, 2.5, and 2.5 weeks respectively. Data Center Building is scheduled to be completely renovated by February 19th of 2006.
