Nanny 911

I just caught the show Nanny 911 on ETC. It's basically a show where a family calls up the Nanny Central for nannies to help them with raising their kids the right way. The nannies at Nanny Central observe how the family behaves; after which, the head nanny decides who to send to the family. The nanny that gets chosen stays with the family for a week and tries to work up a miracle by turning the family from hell into a very blissful one.

Anyway, the one that I've seen was a family where the kids were as unruly as can be. One was a pre-teen who would hit anything and anyone just for the heck of it, another was a prima donna who would scream her way into getting what she wants, and the youngest was a taker on her prima donna sister, not to mention that she is a 4-year old who has not yet been potty trained!

Oh my gosh!!!!! It really is a scary sight! It will surely make you think twice (and a hunderd more times) about wanting to have your own family! Thankfully though, the nanny had all the experience needed to solve the problems. She analyzed the family and worked up a plan. She stressed out the need to have rules, respect, and communication in the family. She used positive reinforcements to encourage the children to behave better. The hardest part for her was to tell the mom to change her nagging ways, to appreciate her children's efforts, to listen to them, and to allow them to make mistakes. It was harder for the mom to take it all in. Imagine a stranger walking in to your house, watching your every move, shaking her head at your every mistake, and then has all the nerve to tell you how raise your kids up right. How humbling can that be? Better sit on that ego dearie! It's for the family anyway. Back to the story, all's well that ends well. The nanny eventually succeeded in helping the family become a more loving and a happier one.

The show's concept is a good one. Viewers can learn a thing or two (or a lot) by watching how the nannies turn a seemingly hopeless family into a model one. Isn't it good to have a nanny central with a pool of experienced nannies to help you through the very challenging but very crucial task of raising up your kids. Wouldn't it be better though if you yourself can be the problem-solver nanny of your own family? I sure hope I can be my own nanny central when the time comes!
